This week as part of our visual influencer series we had the pleasure of interviewing Snapper Rocks based photographer Jewels Lynch aka @jewelszee  who kicked off our interview by telling us “Instagram is what got me into photography. I was one of the those people who said i’m not getting an iphone and then once I got one in 2011 i was absolutely hooked and started taking pictures of anything and everything”

This passion turned into more than Just a hobby late last year when she entered a competition and was invited to attend Hamilton island as part of the Ultimate instameet ,an all-inclusive weekend on the island in the company of other amazing bloggers, Instagrammers, journalists and Australia celebrities, who love to Instagram! #hamiltonislandultimateinstameet

This was followed by in January of this year by winning the McDonalds and Austereo sponsored #DoSummer campaign, out of 65,000 entries and winning $10,000 which allowed her to buy her first DLSR camera.

In June she won NT Tourisms #colourtheoutback competition. An all-inclusive 4 day outback adventure exploring Uluru and Kings Canyon.

So what is it about your photos people like?

The main comment I get it is how people love the brilliant colours of my photos. “A lot of which is due to using plenty of saturation and contrast, but the secret is about not going to warm and too cold.”

“The other comment I most often get is people feel like they want to be in that place, people feel like they could walk into the picture and they get an emotive response to those sort of pictures which is what any photographer wants to aspire to. ”

How have you found the transition from mobile to DSLR?

“It’s has been a slow but steady process as I am not that technical and it is only now I have begun experimenting with filters. But I’ll always take shots with my mobile where I am shooting and the instant gratification & sharing them is pretty amazing.

What tips to you have for aspiring photographers?

Love what you take photos of, take a lot of pictures, watch YouTube tutorials but some of the most important things is being engaged with other photographers. I have learnt so much from the Instagram community, the constant support and knowledge has been amazing and an inspiring thing to be part of.  Like any community she said you get back what you put in.

What does Instagram mean to you?

“Instagram has given me the opportunity and inspiration to pursue my dream!  It is part of my daily life, like brushing my teeth and kissing my daughters goodnight…I couldn’t go to sleep without it. It offers me daily inspiration, kindness, knowledge, support and encouragement from a beautiful community of like-minded people, who are as passionate about photography and social media.

Her other passion whilst not taking photos on her main Instagram account is taking surfing photos under the monicker @snapper _snapper on Instagram at local surfing comps and beaches working with a few online surf magazines.

We expect to see a lot more beautiful and colourful photography from her in the future as her community and influence builds.
